Womens Football
Women & Girls

Women's and girl's football is the fastest growing sport in the world and in recognition of this, the FAW Trust is committed to improving opportunities for female participation in the game.

The Women's and Girl's Football Programme is a national scheme aimed at increasing participation and improving standards of play to support the future success of female national teams.

The Trust has recently appointed Debbie Wise to the post of National Co-ordinator of Women's and Girl's football. She will be responsible for directing the programme and ensuring that planned initiatives are implemented.

The work of these officers has led to the establishment of three new girls' leagues in North Wales and new indoor and outdoor leagues in Powys and Pembrokeshire. An indoor schools league has also recently been launched in Swansea. In addition to this, work is being undertaken with clubs and schools throughout Wales to ensure regular playing opportunities exist for girls.

National Squads are organised and run by the Trust at Under 14 and Under 16 level. Four players from last years' under 16 squad signed for the Arsenal FC Womens' Academy in September 2001. Welsh International Jayne Ludlow (Arsenal FC) was voted the FA Womens' Premier Division player of the year for last season.
