The NEWFA Under 16 Cup Final
played at MOLD ALEXANDRA FC on Wednesday 5th May

Hawarden Rangers
Bonney (22)
1-2
Buckley Town
Tinsley (9), Beck (64)

Paul Dodd's charges did what their senior counterparts had done 24 hours earlier, they returned to Buckley with the Cup safely in their possession. But Buckley Town didn't have it all their own way as Hawarden Rangers proved to be stubborn opponents in a tight match at Mold Alex's Alyn Park. Buckley had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead after just nine minutes. An inviting corner from the right hand side by Jordan Beck, was headed in at the far post by Shaun Tinsley. Most of the spectators thought that this would be the cue for Buckley to press forward, and they were proved right. But credit to Hawarden, they didn't shirk the task in hand and scored an equaliser on 22 minutes. A free-kick from the right was floated into the box and over the heads of the Buckley defence, and found the un-marked Thomas Bonney inside the six yard box, and just as he shaped up to shoot, the ball deflected into the net off his right knee, giving Josh Atkin no chance in the Buckley goal. The game then developed into a midfield battle and chances were few and far between, this was compounded by the fact that Buckley were missing the cutting edge of their suspended striker Aled Reece. Defences were on top now, and Hawarden's Ryan Cunliffe always seemed to be in the right place when Buckley did threaten. The second-half continued in much the same way, with neither keeper really called upon to make a save, and just as both sets of supporters were beginning to consider the prospect of extra-time, a free kick from the right was headed home by Jordan Beck for the winning goal after 65 minutes.

NEWFA would like to thank Mold Alexandra for hosting the game; and also Mr and Mrs Brian Johnson for presenting the Cup - which they donated a number of years ago - to the winning captain Tom Dodd.
