The top tie of the third round of the Bob Williams Sunday Challenge Cup saw the Swan Rhostyllen from the Wrexham area beat The Abbots from Deeside 2-0. Both goals came in the opening half , mike Pritchard with the first and a Warren Duckett thirty yarder for the second.
Chester Sunday side, the Corner Pin finally overcame its visitors the Fox and Grapes 1-0, the winner coming from Lee Woodworth in extra time.
The Acton beat visiting Hole in the Wall 2-1. Damien Wilkens opened the scoring for the Acton only for Niall Rooney to get the sides level by the break. The Red Lion Marford made the next round with a 5-0 home win over the Horse and Jockey. Lee Phelan got the only goal of the opening period before Eddie Maurice-Jones, Matt Davies, George Koumas and Gaz Williams ensured progression in the second.
The Railway Cefn finally overcame its visitors, the Tradesman Arms on penalties after it finished 2-2 at full time and 3-3 after extra time. A Nick Jones penalty gave them a first half lead. The Tradesmen drew level in the second before Nicky Williams put the Railwaymen in front again. It was end to end stuff in the windy conditions and it came down to spot kicks to decide the winner.
The Melrose came from a goal down at the interval to win 2-1 at Wrexham Lager. The men doing the business were Dave Gleave on fifty five minutes and a Danny Wynne header with fifteen minutes left.
A Mathew Bride free kick out wide on the edge of the box gave the Wynnstay Ruabon a goal lead in its home tie against Saltney Ferry. Second half strikes off Chris Bennion and Dave Jackson saw them into the hat for the next round.
