NEWFA Under 16's 2010
NEWFA win Inter-Association Trophy at Aberystwyth!!
11th April 2010
The inaugural Inter-Association Under 16's  Competition was hosted by The Central Wales FA at Blaendolau Playing Fields, Aberystwyth, and was played between Representative teams from the hosts, North Wales Coast FA and our ourselves.
It was played as a Round-Robin event with each team playing the others twice in 15 minute each-way games.
Because of this format and the quality of the players on show, each game was very tight, but we are pleased and very proud to say that our boy's came out on top!!
It was an early start and we arrived in Aber at 8.45am , even though our first game was not until 10.30, so the boys all went for a paddle in the sea - good thinking Mr. Hughes!!
First up we faced CWFA and fell behind to a goal that was gift-wrapped by ourselves, but with time running out Naz Farhat beat two players and struck an absolute screamer from 20 yards out into the top corner. Next we faced NWCFA and again fell behind but rescued a point through a neat finish from Cory Smart. In our second game against CWFA the game finished 0-0, but only because of a sensational save from our captain Craig Herling. The final game of the Tournament pitched us against NWCFA and we knew that a win would guarantee the trophy coming back with us on the bus journey home.
We started the game as we had played our previous 3 games - playing some great football - however NWCFA came closest to opening the scoring when striking the bar in the second half. Cometh the hour cometh the man, and the introduction of Ryan Fisher in the second half proved decisive as he latched on to a through ball and finished decisively to put us 1-0 up. There was still time for a scare as NWCFA had a goal disallowed for offside, but our lad's hung on for a famous and extremely deserved victory.
It is hard to single players out but special mention must be given to Aled Robertson who marshalled his defence brilliantly, Ben Williams who played at centre-half for the first two games, and moved into central midfield for the next two and did not put a foot (or head) wrong all day. Cory Smart who played every minute of NEWFA's games and was still going strong at the end, and was a constant menace throughout. Last but not least Naz Farhat whose sublime skill, tough tackling, desire to win and non-stop running made him out to be the star player of the tournament, (oh and he scored that screamer too!!).
Thanks to Manager Gareth Valentine and his Assistant (and son) Gareth jnr for assembling the squad. The boys were a credit to them and behaved impeccably on and off the pitch all day.

2009/10
INTER ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT 2011

This season's Under 14 and Under 16 Competition was held at Ruthin Town FC on Sunday 10th April 2011
Temperatures soared to 24 degrees and it was an absolute credit to the fitness of all the players in both age groups that they kept going as strongly in the last game as they had in the first one.  First game kicked-off at 10.30am and the tournament ended mid-afternoon.  It was played between the representative sides from:- NEWFA, NWCFA and CWFA.

In the Under 14 Competition it was the host team of North East Wales F.A. who prevailed in an excellent competition. In the Under 16s  Competition, it went down to the wire with the winners of the last game guaranteed to win the Competition, Central Wales FA beat North East Wales FA 1-0 in that game to take the trophy.
Thanks to all who took part, the players, coaches, Match Officials and of course our very amiable hosts Ruthin Town Football Club.

Under 14s

In the very first game of the day it was The Coast FA who stated their intent by taking an early lead, but NEWFA finished the stronger and two fine goals give them the perfect start with three points. The first was a great team goal finished off expertly by Alex Edwards, the second was a quite superb strike by Connor Lloyd.
In our next game we were up against Central Wales who had beaten The Coast 1-0 in Game 2. This was a very tight affair  with each team scoring early on, the NEWFA goal coming from Gary Evans,  and with the CWFA keeper pulling off one stunning save it looked like heading to a draw, but he could do nothing to deny Tomos "TJ" Jones who took the ball into the area and tucked a neat finish into the bottom corner from ten yards. NEWFA had played two and won two.
The very next game saw our boys play The Coast again and this time a solitary strike from Joshua Williams was enough to put us on nine points out of nine.
In game five Central Wales had to win to stay in with a chance of taking the spoils, but The Coast were determined not to be whitewashed and battled gamely to gain a precious point. This result meant that the last game in the Tournament, between NEWFA and CWFA was a "dead-rubber" as NEWFA could not now be caught, but you would never have guessed it as both teams aimed to finish on a high, and it was Central Wales who scored the only goal of the game.

All in all, a quite superb Competition played in a terrific spirit, and expertly controlled by the three young Match Officials, Adam Gardner, David Wright and James Gardner. All of The Coast FA and Central Wales  FA members were glowing in their praise of these young Referee's and also the expertise of our hosts Ruthin Town FC, for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Under 16s

After three games in this Competition we were all starting to look at the rule book to see how we would determine the winners, as they had all ended in draws, (just like last year at Aberystwyth)!!
Unfortunately NEWFA lost the services of five of the six Borras Park Rangers members of the squad late in the week's build-up, the one exception being Curtis Neary who said he would have walked to Ruthin to take part!!
In the first game of this age group it was The Coast FA and NEWFA who played out an enthralling 0-0 draw. Next up was Central Wales against The Coast FA, Central Wales stepped off their team bus had a five minute warm-up and scored within 15 seconds of the start of the game. However The Coast hit back and then took the lead, but CWFA scored a dramatic and deserved equalizer with minutes remaining. Next up was NEWFA v CWFA and again this ended in a goaless stalemate.
The fourth game finally saw a clear winner, however Ifan Hafal left it until the very last minute before his diving header decided the game.
In the next game we were hoping for yet another draw between CWFA and NWCFA to put us in the driving seat, however Central Wales hadn't read the script and eeked out a tense 1-0 win.
In the last game of the day NEWFA had to win, as CWFA had a superior goals-scored column, however the Central Wales boys took no chances and attacked from the outset, like they had in all of their previous games, and ended up with a well earned 2-0 victory to clinch the Trophy.

This age group provided a very close Competition, and on another day the table could quite easily have been reversed.  played in a competitive but fair spirit, this series of matches were quite magnificently controlled by three of the brightest young Match Officials in the North East Wales Area, Lewys Evans, John Jones and Ashley Jones, (even though they managed to lose a Match Ball after the last game!!) Yet again a massive thanks to all the players, coaches and to Ruthin Town FC for their superb welcome at Memorial Fields.
