NEWFA is looking to promote the game of FUTSAL in this area over the coming months, and with this in mind we bring you a brief introduction to this exciting game here................

What is Futsal?
Futsal is a scaled down version of conventional Soccer, and is played by two teams consisting of five players each, including a goalkeeper.
It is played on Basket-Ball sized courts on a variety of surfaces mainly indoors but can be played outdoors given the correct weather!! There are two touchlines so there is no wall to smash the ball or bodies against. The ball is a special small sized ball usually a size 3 or 4, but importantly it is heavier and has a dampened bounce. Futsal is the official five-a-side game recognised by the World governing body FIFA, and it is envisaged that Futsal will become an Olympic sport in the future.

Why play Futsal?
It is a sport whose rules provide the conditions for FAIR play.
Violence is non-existant in Futsal games.
Sliding tackles, shoulder charges and rough play is NOT allowed.
It helps to develop your body, mind and spiritual qualities.
Top professionals in the Premier League's of England, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Holland and Brazil totally immersed themselves in short sided matches from a very young age, which allowed them to develop.
Futsal helps promote:-

FUTSAL GRANT
Residents within the North East Wales Football Association's area are set to reap the benefit of a cash investment into the health of the region as it was recently announced that the Sports Council for Wales' Community Chest scheme is set to plough £1000 into FUTSAL in the area.
Community Chest, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is a National Lottery grant managed by the Sports Council for Wales and supported locally by Wrexham Council. It is designed to encourage more people to become more physically active, more often.
Since its inception in 1999, communities across the length and breadth of Wales have been investing heavily in sports and physical activity projects.
The Sports Council for Wales has recently raised the level of grant available. Organisations keen to develop sport and physical activity in Wales can receive up to £1000 for a qualifying project over a 12 month period, and North East Wales F.A.'s FUTSAL project is one of the latest to benefit.
NEWFA intend to introduce Futsal into a pilot scheme within a local High School in January and then roll it out to other Schools within the area shortly after. It is intended to run after-school courses for Futsal and to train coaches/leaders/junior leaders for this exciting sport, details of which can be found on this web-site on our Futsal page. This grant will help towards that Coach education and pay for special Futsal balls, goals and other equipment.
